About one-third of 59 IN acute care facilities surveyed by the LeapFrog Group received As IN a report released Tuesday.

Maryland was not ranked in comparison to other states because the state requires unique medical reporting standards, Leapfrog said.

The Leapfrog Group announced today the Fall 2017 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, assigning A, B, C, D and F letter grades to more than 2,600 USA hospitals based on medical errors, accidents, injuries and infections.

You deserve to know which hospitals do the best at protecting their patients from harm", Leapfrog said on their website. The data is derived from the CMS, Leapfrog's own hospital survey, and secondary data sources like the American Hospital Association.

A hospital safety watchdog group called Leapfrog has released its latest list of safest - and riskiest - hospitals in the United States.

The state had just one hospital receive an A, Howard County General Hospital in Columbia. A patient died at UMC this summer, and witnesses told The Washington Post he had been mistreated.

Coastal Carolina Hospital scored a "C" from spring 2014 through spring 2016, but jumped up to an "A" on the last three reports. Washington hospitals ranged from A-D.

Over 800 hospitals earned an "A" grade, with the highest percentages found in Rhode Island, Maine, Hawaii, Idaho and Virginia.

MI fell in state rankings from 19th in fall 2016 to 25th in spring 2017 in percentage of hospital with an "A" grade.

"All seven Rhode Island hospitals included in the report received an A. In 2012, the state ranked 50th for its hospitals" grades.

Based on that data, Leapfrog measures 27 aspects of patient health and safety.
