Joel Embiid: Philadelphia 76ers agree five-year super-max deal with superstar

Brown did not address the Embiid contract with reporters in Monday in Boston, where the Sixers played their third preseason game.

The Philadelphia 76ers have reportedly agreed to sign center Joel Embiid to a five-year, $148 million deal.

What if you were told a man who played just 31 National Basketball Association games in three years, signed a deal that would pay him nearly $30 million per year?

Yet it will take more than the Sixers got from Embiid past year to make this thing work. ESPN's Zach Lowe estimated that in order for the 76ers to be a playoff team, they'll need at least 50 games out of Embiid, a modest projection that is still almost double what he played previous year. The contract includes a cap protection for Philly if Embiid misses significant time due to injury.

The exercise involved South Korea's air defense unit and soldiers from the USA 6th Battalion, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Regiment. The Sept. 17 operation was held in South Korea, and was joined by aircraft from the United States, South Korea, and Japan .

Joel Embiid didn't have to be in the building to be the topic of conversation. However, while only averaging 25.4 minutes in those 31 games, he averaged 20.2 points per game.

The first three years of Embiid's career unavoidably conjures up visions of Oden's tenure with the Portland Trail Blazers. With Embiid on the floor, the lowly 76ers actually outscored teams, competing with opponents for the first time in years after undergoing a dramatic rebuild. Few believe he'll play a full, 82-game season soon.

The deal comes as a surprise as the two sides were said to be negotiating, but progress on a long-term extension was unclear. The track record of injury-prone big men is littered with torn ligaments and broken dreams, and Embiid has already had several serious setbacks.

Embiid, a native of Cameroon, appreciates that the 76ers were always supportive as he dealt with the injury troubles before finally making it on the court last season.

Senator Dianne Feinstein Will Seek Sixth Term At Age 84
Lots more to do: ending gun violence, combating climate change, access to healthcare. "I'm all in!" Feinstein tweeted. Schiff, Eric Swalwell and Brad Sherman, were said to be preparing for a Senate campaign if Feinstein opted to retire.

He missed the previous two seasons because of two surgeries to fix the navicular bone in his right foot. This team's future is uncertain, to say the least, with the direction of a franchise being decided by the health of one big personality. In order to cut down on his turnovers, Embiid must improve his ability to recognize when the double team is coming and the ability to pass out of it, preventing live-ball giveaways. The big man is now working back from a torn meniscus but has been participating in 5-on-5 work of late, and the hope is that he'll be ready for the start of the regular season.

Embiid has played 31 games since being drafted by the Sixers in 2014. We can expect, based on a tweet from ESPN's Zach Lowe, the deal to be complicated.

In the end, Colangelo and Embiid's agent, Leon Rose, looked like they were able to meet in the middle on this one.
