Sainz caught off-guard by news of early switch to Renault

Renault will replace British driver Jolyon Palmer with Spaniard Carlos Sainz for the last four races of the Formula One season, the team said on Saturday.

Taking his place at Renault would be Toro Rosso driver, Carlos Sainz, who will be completing the rest of Palmer's season.

"Carlos is signed for next year and Cyril [Abiteboul, the Renault team boss] made it clear he wanted to put him in the vehicle this year as well", Palmer told Sky Sports F1 post-race.

Palmer managed only one point in all of 2016 when Renault had just taken over the failing Lotus team and were struggling with an non-competitive auto.

Sonos introduced a similar feature called TruePlay a few years ago, but it required manual interaction from the user. The report says that the service will use Bluetooth and device motion to determine when to activate the feature.

"When I'm sat on the plane on the way back home, probably it will sink in that certainly I won't be driving for Renault again and maybe not in Formula One again", he said.

Sainz is officially joining Renault on loan from Red Bull as part of a deal that allows Toro Rosso to terminate their engine contract with the French manufacturer and start a new partnership with Honda.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Palmer said: "Obviously it's been a bit of a unusual weekend knowing it was going to be my last race with the team, it's a shame I'm not going to Austin with them. He has shown great personal qualities and we wish him all the best in his future career".

"My immediate focus is now on achieving the best possible result in the Japanese GP, and then I can assess my options for the future".

After the final race, Abiteboul commented: "Jolyon's performance is another demonstration of his professionalism and his loyalty, and a very good way to bid farewell to the Renault family".

"I wish the team all the best in the future".

"Being able to compete in se last four races with Renault is a great opportunity to meet team and vehicle sooner than expected".
