Iran Warns of Response to New US Sanctions

The warning comes as US President Trump is expected to announce his new Iran policy in the coming days.

Tehran launches missile tests in order to improve its ballistic missiles' accuracy, which is not required for nuclear weapons, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Saturday.

Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Commander Mohammad Ali Jafari criticized Washington Sunday amid the reports about US President Donald Trump's plan to place additional sanctions on Tehran and designate the IRGC a terrorist group.

The head of the elite military unit also made a veiled threat to attack U.S. military bases in the region.

Project Loon cleared to help restore wireless in Puerto Rico
Google is the latest company to bring relief to Puerto Rico as the island deals with the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. In 2016, a test site was set up in Puerto Rico to launch what the project called "a handful of test balloons".

Jafari also said that Washington is on "the wrong route" in attempting to pressure Iran into negotiations on regional issues, and said that new sanctions would only "eliminate the chance" for talks.

Should the U.S. carry out the so-called Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), it will then have to relocate its regional bases out of the reach of Iran's missiles, which have a range of 2,000, Jaafari said at a high-profile IRGC session on Sunday.

The U.S. has numerous military bases within 500 kilometers (310 miles) of Iran, namely in countries like Bahrain, Iraq and Afghanistan.

They include financial sanctions on anyone who does business with the Revolutionary Guards, as well as millions of dollars in rewards for information leading to the arrest of two operatives from the Iran-backed Lebanese Hizballah movement.

"If the US is stupid enough to designate the IRGC a terrorist group, then the IRGC will treat the US Army the way we treat ISIS", he stated.

He said such moves by the US will eliminate "any chance for engagement forever".

If he does decide to maintain the nuclear deal, he is nonetheless expected to sharpen United States responses to Iranian missile tests, Tehran's alleged support for "terrorism" and its cyber operations.

Foreign Minister Zarif added that in realty, the region is suffering from mistaken policies of the U.S. and Iran is confronting terrorism and Takfiri groups and will continue its policies in this framework and realities in the region are gradually enlightened for other world countries.
