Carvalho sentenced to 7-month jail term

Former Real Madrid defender Ricardo Carvalho has been convicted of tax fraud relating to his image rights, accepting a seven-month suspended jail sentence and paying a €142,822 fine to the Spanish authorities.

However the former Chelsea player, who has won 89 caps for Portugal, is unlikely to spend any time behind bars.

The court praised Carvalho for his full acknowledgement of the circumstances and compliance in proceedings, alongside repaying the full fee of €545,981.03.

Chris Sale's first career postseason start didn't go as planned
They beat the Red Sox 8-2 and gave Boston a 360-degree view of how their lineup can hurt teams in a bunch of different ways. Houston smoked Sale; what should have been an epic pitchers' duel with Justin Verlander didn't come close to its billing.

Carvalho who is now playing for Chinese club Shanghai SIPG is also alleged to have hidden £488,500 from the authorities which has since been returned.

The Portuguese defender has had a glittering career, with much of it alongside Mourinho; the two of them took Porto to Champions League glory, paving the way for their move to Chelsea.

The 39-year-old Carvalho spent two seasons at Real Madrid between June 2010-June 2012.

Now easing into retirement in China, Blues fans will look back fondly at Ricardo Carvalho for his work on the pitch, despite his wrongdoings, playing the Chelsea way with grit and determination.
