Uber northern Europe boss quits after London licence loss

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi is flying into London next week for a diplomatic mission with city regulators in hopes of negotiating a deal that prevents the ride-hailing service from being banned in its largest European market.

It comes just a day after Uber's United Kingdom head quit her post.

TfL cited concerns about Uber's conduct and approach in areas including checks on drivers and reporting criminal offences.

While talks with TfL about a potential rapprochement are to continue, Uber has until 13 October to lodge a legal appeal against the transport authority's decision.

Voting closes on October 16, with the winners due to be announced at the IAAF Athletics Awards in Monaco on November 24. At the conclusion of the voting process, three men and three women finalists will be announced by the IAAF.

Uber, not known for donning the hair-shirt, issued a contrite apology to Londoners for past misdemeanours, indicating the commercial significance of the United Kingdom capital to its business; Uber claims some 3.5mln people use the service in London.

The decision not to renew Uber's license comes after a number of controversies at the company, which led TfL to rule that Uber is not a "fit and proper" company to hold a license.

Khosrowshahi will sit down with Mike Brown, the commissioner for Transportation for London, the regulator that last week revoked Uber's license.

In addition to that, Khosrowshahi is also in the midst of a boardroom power battle with former CEO Travis Kalanick, and the latest intrigue in London means that he has landed into a bit of a mess as far as the company's state of affairs is concerned.

Us Weekly reports that the babe arrived at around 3 p.m. on Sunday, clocking in at 6 pounds and 12 ounces. As of right now, he has blond hair and blue eyes (which can change as he gets older).

Uber is facing many challenges in the United Kingdom market.

Khosrowshahi sent an email to Uber employees when the London ban was first announced, saying it could have "profound negative consequences" for the company.

The meeting comes as Mr Khosrowshahi faces pressure in the U.S. over former Uber boss Travis Kalanick's influence over the company's board.

In a letter to the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, who chairs TfL, Justin Peters said: "Uber London must clear up ongoing concerns around any failure to pay HMRC the same levels of VAT (Value-Added Tax) and corporation tax paid by other UK-based minicab fleet". Its drivers can keep operating until then and potentially after that date if the appeal process is extended.

OJ Simpson Freed from Prison After Serving 9-Year Sentence for Robbery
The former American football player, now aged 70, was granted early parole back in July with a release date set for 1st October. Simpson was acquitted in the 1994 murder of his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson , and her friend, Ron Goldman , 22 years ago.

More than 840,000 people have signed an online petition launched by Uber, urging TfL to reverse its ruling.
