The U.S. was sending the hospital ship USNS Comfort to Puerto Rico as part of a ramped up response Wednesday to the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria.

Hurricane Maria hit the USA territory more than a week ago, leaving it without power and its roughly 3.4 million residents short on fuel and other supplies.

He said he has been speaking with members of Congress from both parties who have supported an emergency waiver.
