North Korea quake detected, and Seoul says it's the real thing

On Thursday Trump announced new USA sanctions that he said allows the targeting of companies and institutions that finance and facilitate trade with North Korea.

China has announced that it will limit energy supplies to North Korea and stop buying its textiles under United Nations sanctions imposed over its nuclear and missile development, further reducing support from Pyongyang's last ally.

President Trump tweeted early Friday morning that Kim Jong Un is "a madman who doesn't mind starving or killing his people", further escalating the tensions between the US and North Korea.

Seoul's Meteorological Administration assessed the quake as natural, while China called the earthquake a "suspected explosion".

Pyongyang conducted its sixth and largest nuclear test on September 3 and has launched dozens of missiles this year as it accelerates a program aimed at enabling it to target the United States with a nuclear-tipped missile.

Kim's Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho said that the North is considering testing "an unprecedented scale hydrogen bomb" over the Pacific in response to U.S. President Donald Trump's threat at the United Nations to "totally destroy" the country. "However, we are carrying out a further analysis because there are concerns that it might have been a man-made quake".

Gareth Barry: Record-breaker, great Premier League survivor
Arsenal are in disarray and no closer to winning the Premier League this season than they have been in the past decade. I know Ryan also played games before the Premier League so maybe his overall record (672) can be the next target.

But Chung Sung-Yoon, an analyst at the Korea Institute for National Unification, told AFP that the North itself may have shelved the idea of negotiations until it reaches its nuclear goal.

However, the North never stopped its nuclear program, and instead has developed nuclear weapons-including a miniaturized nuclear warhead, according to an analysis by the Defense Intelligence Agency-and the missile technology needed to deliver it.

The U.S. Geological Survey said it could not conclusively confirm whether the quake, which it measured at magnitude 3.5, was manmade or natural.

Trump unveiled new economic sanctions against North Korea Thursday that target the regime and companies that do business with them.

Kim said in his statement early Friday that if the us were to carry out its threat to destroy the North, his country would consider the "highest level of hard-line countermeasure in history".

"In the end you can't sanction North Korea into collapse or compliance". "In this case we saw none".

Trump reinforces support of Luther Strange at Alabama rally
With the clock ticking toward the mid-term elections, the time is running out for the President's agenda to be implemented. It may not have been exactly the ringing endorsement Strange's campaign had hoped for, but it would have to do.

North Korea says it needs nuclear weapons to deter a US invasion, but Thornton contended that the North ultimately seeks to take over USA -allied South Korea.

The agency said it was analysing the nature of the quake and its initial view was that it was a natural tremor because no soundwaves specific to man-made earthquakes were detected.

US President Donald Trump dubbed North Korean leader Kim Jong Un "Rocket Man" in a speech at the UN in which he threatened to "totally destroy" the North if it attacked the US or its allies.

In recent months, much attention has been paid to the commercial and financial ties between China and North Korea.

"This mission is a demonstration of USA resolve and a clear message that the President has many military options to defeat any threat".

Saturday's seismic activity came on the same day China announced it would limit trade with the North, reducing its fuel exports to its neighbor and banning all textile imports.

Abolish militant safe havens, Afghan President tells Pakistan
He said that joint Afghan-U.S. forces were making headway against their opposition, "hitting them hard and hitting them effectively".

Earlier on Saturday, China said it will limit exports of refined petroleum products from October 1 and ban exports of condensates and liquefied natural gas immediately to comply with the latest United Nations sanctions.
