Sprint, T-Mobile US reignite mega-merger talks (again)

That day, according to a new report from CNBC, may not be far off.

It looks like T-Mobile Inc (NASDAQ:TMUS) and Sprint Corp (NYSE: S) are on the brink of a merger or consolidation.

IOS 11 release is tomorrow: Our essential 'getting ready' list
Along with the product announcements, Apple also announced the upgrade to its' operating system with the release of iOS 11 . In iOS 11 that is made slightly easier, because you can now shift the keyboard to the left or the right and make it smaller.

The current state of affairs, according to the report, is more heated on Sprint's end of things, with Sprint's parent company Softbank allegedly stating its willingness to part with the wireless carrier if a deal could be made. Those same sources say a deal is not imminent, and talks have not progressed on exactly how much stock would be exchanged.

Deutsche Telekom AG (ADR) (OTCMKTS:DTEGY) - which owns about 64% of T-Mobile - would like to have control of the combined company due to the fact that the carrier is responsible for the bulk of the company's sales and earnings growth. This also shows that Deutsche Telekom isn't quite ready to get rid of T-Mobile US just yet, which is a huge difference from a few years ago, when it was shopping the company around to potential buyers. Reuters reported in June that the carrier was in talks with cable companies Charter Communications and Comcast about a possible partnership, but the those were put on hold when SoftBank entered into exclusive negotiations with Charter and Comcast.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain needs time to adapt at Liverpool, says Jurgen Klopp
We took a lot of risks in this game and he was involved in it and did really well. Of course, it's a little bit unusual that we play Leicester again on the weekend.

The companies' shares jumped 5.8 percent and 6.7 percent, respectively.

An agreement is "weeks away", CNBC's David Faber says. The deal would have to be approved by the Department of Justice, which would no doubt include a lengthy review process and a highly probable risk of rejection. "Whether both operators can get to a meeting of the minds on whether an attempt makes sense is of course the critical first question".

Boris eyes up No 10 with blueprint for better Brexit
Yet these events do reveal the folly of marginalising Mr Johnson who was the most high-profile advocate of Brexit in the European Union referendum.

It's likely that T-Mobile CEO John Legere would lead whatever entity that forms as a result of the merger.
