Selena Gomez on Kidney Transplant: 'Progress Is Being Made'

On Thursday morning, Selena Gomez made a huge announcement on her Instagram: She said she laid low over the summer because she'd undergone a kidney transplant due to her lupus, a chronic autoimmune condition that can affect many parts of the body.

Gomez, who also posted a photo of the scar from her transplant surgery in the same Instagram post, promised her fans that she'd reveal more details about her health in the near future. "She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice", Gomez said.

She added: "I am incredibly blessed".

It's incredibly tough and incredibly courageous dealing with any chronic illness. "Selena and I were in the same group and we just clicked".

Grenfell Tower inquiry: First public hearing opens
Demonstrators gathered outside the building where Sir Martin made his address carrying banners that read: "Justice for Grenfell". No evidence is being heard on the first day of the hearing and an interim report is expected by Easter.

The superstar said the transplant was "what I needed to do for my overall health".

"There aren't words to describe how I can possibly thank my handsome friend Francia Raisa. However, the effects of lupus on organs such as the kidneys can make it life-threatening".

One of the most selfless and courageous things a person can do is donate an organ, and it's unbelievable to see Gomez publicly acknowledging that (with 2.1 million likes so far on the post, it seems Raisa is getting the recognition she deserves).

Gomez's representatives were not immediately available for comment.

She said that now she has patience with fame but she knows how to take a break from it. And I'm never confused with him'.

Gomez concluded her post with the words "by grace through faith" - taken directly from Ephesians 2:8 which reveals the means of salvation through faith in Christ: "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God".

At one point, Gomez actually asked Raisa to come on tour with her and perform as a dancer, but that couldn't happen because Raisa was filming The Secret Life of the American Teenager.

Gomez has opened up about her battle with lupus in the past. She also thanked her family and doctors before paying tribute to Raisa.
