Guam Governor Says Trump Called, Assured Island Is Safe

Alluding to the threats against Guam, Trump said if North Korea took any steps to even think about an attack, it would have reason to be nervous.

President Trump issued yet another provocative warning of military action against North Korea on Friday, the third time in a week that he has suggested he was ready to strike the small, isolated Asian country that has been developing nuclear weapons capable of reaching the United States.

The White House says Trump has a phone conversation Friday with Chinese President Xi Jinping in which the leaders reiterated their commitment to the de-nuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Although Guam remains on alert, Gov. Eddie Baza Calvo took pains to assure residents on Wednesday that there was no immediate danger.

While the Global Times is a state-sanctioned tabloid, its views do not always represent official Chinese government policies. Despite the tough rhetoric, Trump insisted that "nobody loves a peaceful solution better than President Trump".

As it is, the USA has a robust military presence in the region, including six B-1 bombers in Guam and Air Force fighter jet units in South Korea, plus other assets across the Pacific Ocean and in the skies above.
