Facebook Marketplace Available in 17 European Countries

While Facebook doesn't offer the same reassurance as eBay's feedback scores, you can view the public profiles of would-be buyers and see how long they've been on Facebook.

Marketplace, already up and running in a handful of markets including the United States, Britain and Australia, is building on Facebook's buy-sell groups.

Facebook's foray into e-commerce hasn't yet made it much money, but the modest Marketplace service is proving exceptionally popular in the U.S. regardless, meaning it remains a strong competitor in terms of appeal.

The countries added to Facebook Marketplace are Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Prior to this, Marketplace was only available in the US, Australia, Canada, Chile, Mexico, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, which means that the total number of markets that Marketplace is available in is now at 24.

"We are starting a small test that shows ads to a small percentage of people using Marketplace in the USA and will evaluate the response before determining how we move forward", Michelle Bonner Techel, Product Marketing Manager at Facebook, said in a statement per Recode.
