Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro demands a bilateral meeting with Donald Trump

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro demands a bilateral meeting with Donald Trump

"In remarks to reporters at his New Jersey golf club Friday, Trump said he wouldn't rule out a "possible military option" in Venezuela".

Meanwhile, the ringleader of an August 6 attack on a Venezuelan military base near the city of Valencia has been captured, Defence Minister Vladimir Padrino said in a tweet on Friday.

He said: We have troops all over the world in places that are very far away.

"We had some very good meetings, some very good ideas, very good thoughts, and a lot of decisions were made", Trump said following the briefing, without providing details.

Asked what options were available for the USA in dealing with Venezuela, which has descended into civil unrest under the leadership of president Nicholás Maduro, Trump responded by explicitly not ruling out military force.

US Congresswoman Calls Gun Rights Group 'Domestic Security Threat'
Rice equates this with being a threat to national security, but I can imagine that she hasn't made any new friends for her party. According to her next tweet five minutes later, that makes the NRA a " domestic security threat ".

McMaster told broadcaster MSNBC, "You've seen Maduro have some lame attempts to try to do that already", adding that it was important for the USA and its neighbors to speak with a single voice in defense of Venezuela's democracy.

"The Pentagon has received no orders", said Pentagon spokesman Eric Pahon, referring questions to the White House.

It has been years - including Haiti in 2004 and Panama in 1989 and 1994 - since the last direct US military interventions in Latin America.

The U.N. human rights office had said that the Venezuelan security forces had systematically wielded excessive force to suppress protests, killing dozens, and arbitrarily detained 5,000 people since April.

Trump declined to give more details about the possibility of US forces leading an operation in Venezuela.

Dobbs, Steelers too strong for Giants
In the first four Pittsburgh possessions, Dobbs completed one pass to a Steelers receiver, and two passes to the Giants defenders. Johnson's fourth series began at the Steelers' 17-yard line following an interception by defensive end Devin Taylor .

The sanctions came after Maduro held what many observers called an illegitimate election to hand unlimited power to Venezuela's ruling party.

President Donald Trump would not rule out the possibility of a military intervention in Venezuela on Friday, stepping up rhetoric directed at a regime the President has already accused of being led by a "dictator".

At least 120 people have been killed in violent demonstrations over the past few months. He further added "Venezuela is a mess".

The 545-member assembly, which has the rights to amend the constitution and reorganize the government, "aims to fix the malfunction" plaguing the country's governing system, according to Delcy Rodriguez, the recently elected president of the new legislative body.

President Nicolas Maduro's new constituent assembly has been widely criticised as anti-democratic.
