Mets Trade Second Baseman Neil Walker to Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers have pulled off a deal to acquire second baseman Neil Walker in a trade with the New York Mets.

Addison Reed, Lucas Duda and Jay Bruce were all traded by the Mets in recent weeks, saving the club about $9 million. The 31-year-old is hitting.264/.339/.442 with 10 home runs, but he's been limited to 73 games due to a hamstring injury. Assuming this deal reaches the finish line, Asdrubal Cabrera and Jose Reyes will be candidates to replace Walker at second base in NY while Walker figures to supplant Eric Sogard and Jonathan Villar as the Brewers' primary second baseman down the stretch.

Once hot, the Brewers have since trickled back since the second half of the season opened up.

The Brewers have been trying to find an upgrade at second base before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. Walker is an impending free agent and is owed the remainder of his $17.2 million salary this season.
