Man arrested over auto attack in Virginia

The driver suspected of plowing his auto into counter-protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Saturday is in police custody. A white nationalist rally broke out in violence over the removal of a Confederate General Robert E. Lee statue. The auto was allegedly driven by a 20-year-old man from OH who has been identified as James Alex Fields Jr.

State Police have confirmed the deaths of two people in a helicopter crash near Charlottesville are linked to the violent white nationalist rally earlier Saturday. Police took a man into custody as the subject of a homicide investigation, Charlottesville Police Chief Al Thomas said. As of Saturday evening, 35 people have been treated for injuries, some life-threatening; with 19 of those injuries directly connected to the vehicle that killed the woman as she was crossing the street. "You pretend that you are patriots but you are anything but a patriot", McAuliffe said adding that there was "no place" for the supporters of the far-right views in the United States.

McAuliffe told the white supremacists and Nazis to go home, saying they are not welcome in Virginia. Friday night, ended with one woman and two state troopers dead after a violent Saturday afternoon.

President Donald Trump condemned the violence, but did not specifically mention white nationalists, neo-Nazis, or their views, instead criticising hatred and violence "on many sides", reports The Hill magazine.

"What is vital now is a swift restoration of law and order and the protection of innocent", noted Trump.

His messages came about an hour after first lady Melania Trump addressed the tense protests taking place in Charlottesville. Counter-protesters say they will attend the events and "shut them down".
