Malappuram: School in a spot over uniform diktat

A school in Kerala has come up with a weird dress code as per which two different type of uniforms has been set for the students studying in it which is based on their academic skills.

While academically sharp students were given white shirts and tops, average and underperforming students were directed to wear red check shirts and tops.

While parents were against the new rule, they were told that the change in uniform will ensure a healthy competition among under performing ones and help them improve. According to the Childline authorities, 32 students of the school, who were good at studies were told by the school authorities to wear a gray uniform, while others were wearing the regular uniform of the school. All the students were advised to follow the same in the new academic session which started back in June.

The Childline authorities had conducted a survey among the students for their feedbacks on the new system following the complaint received in June.

"We met school authorities and conveyed the dissent of the students".

Though the decision has been taken to trigger a healthy competition among students, many parents have found it discriminatory. "We demanded appropriate action from the school".

The school, however, did not withdraw the system even after a month.

School principal Abdul Kareem defended himself saying that the new system was launched as part of forming students' group in class rooms to monitor different co-curricular activities.
