Jeter-Sherman to add runner-up to group

Jeter-Sherman to add runner-up to group

New York-based venture capitalist Bruce Sherman is leading the purchase group. Jeter is expected to have a title such as CEO or team president and have active involvement, though his relatively low personal investment - $25M according to sources - would not qualify him to be designated as the control person by Major League Baseball. While Jeter will only contribute $25 million for the Marlins purchase, Sherman will allow Jeter to run the Marlins both on the business and baseball side. A third group which, included former Governor of Florida Jeb Bush and was led by Wayne Rothbaum dropped out earlier in the week.

Jeter resides in Tampa and has long had interest in owning a franchise.

Jeter, who is 43, retired following 20 seasons with the Yankees. The Marlins have not reached the playoffs since.

Here's how you can see the Perseid Meteor Shower Saturday night
The best time to look up will be after midnight - aka early in the morning of August 13 - when the sky will be darkest. But don't let that stop you from checking out the show as there still should be plenty of brighter meteors to see.

Others have pointed out that there is a major difference between being good at playing sports and being good at running a sports team, using the example of Michael Jordan and his ownership of the Charlotte Bobcats/Hornets.

That's why Jeter needs a team to pull it off.

It isn't clear what role Mas, the chairman of Mas-Tec, would play, but there's word he could invest up to around $300M, so it could be a fairly significant one. The deal will still have to approved by three-quarters of baseball's owners.

FS Investment Corporation (NYSE:FSIC) Upgraded by Zacks Investment Research to Hold
Creative Planning's holdings in FS Investment Corporation were worth $707,000 at the end of the most recent reporting period. The financial services provider reported $0.22 EPS for the quarter, topping analysts' consensus estimates of $0.20 by $0.02.

But it does appear that the sale is much more likely to happen than it is not.

The Marlins were sold for $1.2 billion by owner Jeffrey Loria.
