Iranian parliament approves anti-US bill

Tehran says its missile program does not breach a United Nations resolution which endorsed the nuclear deal.

Lawmakers gave the go ahead for the crafting of the bill which is aimed at countering "America's terrorist and adventurist actions", according to the state broadcaster IRIB.

On Sunday, Iran's parliament supported the bill on additional $520 million for the ballistic missiles program and for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Araghchi, also in defense, said the countermeasure bill is "much stronger" than US Congress bill against Iran, since it also extends support to the Islamic Republic's armed forces and all related ministries.

However, the market changed its direction after President Trump warned North Korea that threats will be "met with fire and fury ". Avis Budget Group Inc. slumped 9.9 percent after the vehicle rental company cut its guidance following a weak second quarter.

The additional United States sanctions put in place last month directly target the missile programme and the IRGC.

Abbas Araghchi, a deputy foreign minister and senior nuclear negotiator on hand for the vote, said a moderate President Hassan Rouhani's government would support the bill.

The 27-article draft was endorsed after it was brought forward in the Parliament by the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission in July.

Under the law, the foreign ministry is tasked to create and publish a blacklist of people to be put under sanctions - in cooperation with the Revolutionary Guards' foreign operations wing, Central Bank, and ministry of intelligence.
