Davinder Singh Kang became the first Indian to reach the mens javelin throw final of the IAAF World Championships. He recorded a 82.22-metre throw in his opening attempt and then came up with 82.14-metre in his second.

Tropical depression forms off the East Coast
The system is expected to head north along the coast before peeling off into the Atlantic early next week. The hurricane center's forecast said Jova would continue to weaken and likely dissipate Sunday.

“After I came to know that Neeraj did not qualify, I wanted to qualify for the final round. "I really believe I can grab that medal", Kang told The Indian Express after his latest achievement. "It was a bit hard in the first couple of days but now I have fully acclimatised to the conditions and I am 100 per cent ready", Chopra told PTI. He was eliminated after three throws while the top eight continued the competition. I will go all out from the very first throw.

The 28-year-old Kang, who tested positive for marijuana but still made it to the Indian squad as the dope offence did not attract an automatic suspension, was carrying a right shoulder injury that he had sustained in May. "But, I had to ask my friend Sri Lankan competitor [Waruna Rankoth Pedige] to do some stretching before my third and final throw", he said, while displaying his right shoulder injury. On Thursday, Kang created history, while his more fancied compatriot Neeraj Chopra crashed out in the qualification round after a disappointing performance. Kang will now compete at the final today and will look to become only the second Indian to win a medal after Anju Bobby George, who won a bronze medal in women's long jump at the 2003 World Championships in Paris.
