Red Cross urging for donations as blood shortage continues

The American Red Cross overcome a chronic late-summer blood shortage by donating on Monday, Aug. 28, at Tidelands HealthPoint Center for Health and Fitness in Pawleys Island.

Comptroller Darlene Green will host a Red Cross Charles Drew Blood Drive 11 a.m. -3 p.m. Wednesday, August 16 in Room 208 of City Hall, 1200 Market St.

The American Red Cross says donors can help ensure patients get the donations they desperately need. Those who donated blood earlier this summer may be eligible to donate again. Blood can be safely donated every 56 days, and Power Red cells can be donated every 112 days.

The Red Cross is offering individuals who donate blood in August a $5 Target e-gift card. To locate a drive near you log onto http://www.redcrossblood.org/ or by calling 1-800-REDCROSS.
