North Korea says to take 'corresponding measures' if UN adopts sanctions

South Korea and the United States, its main ally, dispute the claim.

China has slashed imports of coal from North Korea even as overall trade between the countries continues to rise.

That the White House would consider a second round of sanctions so soon after the first indicates that the Trump administration is willing to back up its tough rhetoric on North Korea. But it is especially anxious about the collapse of the regime with which it shares a border, and fears both an influx of millions of North Korean refugees and the possibility of a unified Korea with US troops again at the Yalu River.

Cho also urged the restoration of military and government hotlines across the border, which had been cut by the North a year ago in response to the South imposing economic sanctions after a nuclear test by Pyongyang.

China's economy posts steady growth but risks remain
Analysts polled by AFP had forecast growth of 6.8 percent after the economy expanded 6.9 percent in the first quarter. Industrial output gained 7.6 percent in June prior year beating analysts' expectation of a 6.5 percent increase.

The last such reunions were held in October 2015 during the government of Moon's predecessor under a futile push for reconciliation following a sharp increase in tension over border incidents involving a landmine blast and artillery fire.

The Koreas last convened for military talks in late 2014.

The new data reflects China's attempt to pull off a delicate balancing act between the USA and North Korea, where it wants to prevent the regime collapsing because it worries about what that would mean for regional stability.

Primary users of fuel products in North Korea include fishermen, farmers, truckers and the military.

Moon has suggested hostile military activities be halted at the inter-Korean border on July 27, the anniversary of the 1953 armistice agreement that ended the Korean War.

The Colombian Nairo Quintana , already struggling in the big Pyrenean stage on Thursday, has been dropped in Peyra Taillade. Truly, this outcome was only in doubt for about 20 minutes, the amount of time it took Federer to grab his first lead.

South Korea stepped up efforts Monday to engage North Korea by proposing military talks this week, despite Pyongyang's insistence on developing nuclear weapons in defiance of global sanctions.

Pyongyang has repeatedly said it refuses to engage in all talks with the South unless Seoul turns over 12 waitresses who defected to the South a year ago after leaving a restaurant run by the North in China.

Local media speculations said the DPRK would accept the military talks with South Korea, rather than the dialogue offer for reunion of divided families, to stop propaganda broadcasts in frontline units of South Korea and anti-DPRK leaflets scattered by South Korean civic group activists toward the DPRK.

The North's foreign ministry said in a statement carried by the official KCNA news agency that the ICBM test was an exercise of its legitimate right to self-defence against nuclear threat from the United States.
