Coast Guard rescues mother, daughter swept out to sea by rip tide

The Coast Guard is thanking a "good Samaritan" who they say rescued five people from a burning boat that caught fire off Martha's Vineyard, 18 miles south of the Nomans Land island on Sunday.

A good Samaritan radioed the Coast Guard around 10:00 a.m., saying that the Finale - a 32-foot recreational craft - had caught fire and he had rescued everyone aboard.

The USCG crew immediately rescued the mother and daughter from the water and helped the rescuer back onto the jet ski.

A Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued the three from the water and took them to firefighters with the Menlo Park Fire Protection District.
