Travelers Championship: Jordan Spieth wins after play-off

Rory McIlroy's third change of putter in as many days finally brought some positive results on the greens, as the Northern Irishman - who'd barely survived the midway cut after a horrid time with the putter in hand - shot a finishing round 64 for 274, six-under-par, which gave him a top-20 finish at The Travelers championship in CT.

That was - if I was in (Daniel) Berger's shoes, I'd be cursing Jordan Spieth right now for the break off the tee and then holing a 30-yard bunker shot.

Spieth, 23, joined Tiger Woods as the only players in the modern era with 10 PGA Tour victories before the age of 24.

A flair for the dramatic is nothing new for Spieth, who also holed a bunker shot for his first victory at the 2013 John Deere Classic.

Sunday's win was Spieth's first of 2017 and his fourth career playoff victory.

Jordan Spieth needed an extra hole, a little bit of luck and an wonderful final shot Sunday to finish off a wire-to-wire victory in the PGA Tour's Travelers Championship. I jumped up and saw it coming right down on the pin.

Berger had a chance to level and force another hole with a challenging putt, but the 24-year-old shot wide.

A splashdown second shot for Spieth at the par-5 13th led to a bogey, trimming his edge to one stroke over Daniel Berger. "But to win golf tournaments, you can't do things like that". "If I were a fan, I would pick this tournament". If it wasn't Jordan Spieth on the other side, that would've been enough to continue the playoff.

"Obviously, that was one for the ages, " he said of the winning shot.

Just a couple of weeks ago, something wasn't clicking for Jordan Spieth. I'm not here to finish second place, so it's disappointing.

Kumble resigns as India head coach
Anil Kumble claims an "untenable partnership" with captain Virat Kohli meant he could no longer carry on as head coach of India. Gavaskar also said that he was unaware of the differences between Kohli and Kumble, whilst applauding Kumble for his efforts.

"Yeah, obviously disappointment. But at the same time, I still had a putt to go another hole and nearly made it".

"You're welcome #goldenchild", Thomas wrote after Spieth's shot.

Jordan Spieth hit a miraculous bunker-shot for a birdie on hole 18 in the final-round of the Travelers Championship. On the 17 hole, his approach shot looked to be heading into the greenside lake but his ball stayed dry and he made par.

Paul Broadhurst, two strokes ahead after each of the first two rounds, had a 73 to finish fifth at 11 under.

The two American youngsters had finished tied at the top on 12 under after an erratic, but entertaining final round at TPC River Highlands, they returned to the 18th tee and both left themselves in trouble with their drives.
