Officer injured, San Francisco mall closed following fight

A brawl forced the temporary lockdown of San Francisco's downtown Westfield Mall Sunday evening and ended with several people being detained, reports CBS San Francisco.

The San Francisco Police Department received multiple 911 calls at around 6.43pm about a violent melee at Westfield Mall located at Market and Fifth streets.

The first officers to arrive called for backup, Officer Robert Rueca said.

Rueca said officers tried to detain several people some of whom resisted and would not obey officers.

According to the police, one officer sustained minor injuries when he was pepper sprayed during the fracas, and one juvenile was arrested.

Because of the level of violence and the number of innocent bystanders inside the mall, the center was closed early, police said.

The brawl occurred after the city's gay pride parade, and many people were in the area at the time.

The mall is expected to open on schedule Monday morning.
