College professor fired in wake of Fox News appearance

Lisa Durden, an adjunct professor of communications at Essex County College in New Jersey, was sacked after remarks made to Tucker Carlson on Fox News defending a Memorial Day party hosted by a NY chapter of Black Lives Matter and intended for "blacks-only".

"The college affirms its right to select employees who represent the institution appropriately and are aligned with our mission", Munroe said, while stating it "supports and affirms the right of free speech and independent views and expressions of those views for our faculty and staff". "You white people are angry because you couldn't use your white-privilege card to get invited to the Black Lives Matter all-black Memorial Day celebration".

A defiant Durden told NJ.com that she believed residing in Newark, NJ, a "black and brown city", and being employed by a "black and brown college", would protect her in making her statements. "You white people are angry because you couldn't use your white privilege card" to attend the event.

Durden's rationale for the "one day for black folks to focus on ourselves" hinged on white people having had "white days forever", as she cited the Academy Awards, TV shows, and the long-overdue first black "Bachelorette" by way of example.

The expansion draft itself was mostly anticlimactic, as the names of numerous new Golden Knights had already leaked out. To see the trophies up close and personal, touch them, get a picture with them, it makes it all a little bit more real.

Shortly into Anthony Munroe's tenure as president of a northern New Jersey college, the school suspended and ultimately fired an adjunct professor after a heated appearance on Fox News in June.

"In consideration of the College's mission, and the impact that this matter has had on the College's fulfillment of its mission, we can not maintain an employment relationship with the adjunct", Munroe said in a lengthy statement Friday.

"What I say to that is, boo hoo hoo", Durden shot back. As of this past Friday, Durden no longer works at the school.

Durden, meanwhile, according to the Philly Inquirer, called her firing a lynching and said that she felt like a rape victim being blamed for what happened to her.

"When the administration receives an outpouring of concern regarding our student body, it is our responsibility to investigate those concerns", he said.

"The character of this institution mandates that we embrace diversity, inclusion and unity", he said. "We don't want anybody going against us today". Farber says that they can't legally prevent their employees from speaking out.

Durden's lawyer, Leslie Farber, said that the firing violated the Durden's right to free speech and that the pair is considering a possible lawsuit against the college.

Durden was a frequent guest on Fox News, appearing on The Kelly Files, Fox & Friends, and more, typically in defense of the Black Lives Matter movement.
