Cilic, Querrey Cruise To Victory At Queen's

Cilic, Querrey Cruise To Victory At Queen's

Spanish veteran Feliciano Lopez helped banish the memory of one of his most painful defeats when he beat Grigor Dimitrov to set up an Aegon Championships final against Marin Cilic on Saturday.

The 35-year-old will face Cilic in today's title match at the Wimbledon warm-up event after the Croatian reached his third Queen's final with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 victory over Gilles Muller.

In the doubles, Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares made the semi-finals, beating Michael Venus and Ryan Harrison 7-6 (7/1) 4-6 10-6.

Cilic will bid for his 18th career title on Sunday; he owns a 5-2 lifetime record against Lopez including a win over the Spaniard in three sets at Queen's in 2013.

Fourth seed Cilic, who had been seeking his second title at Queen's, saw a championship point go begging when his rival played a nerveless volley on the stretch trailing 6-5. That match is not likely to be a flawless gauge for this semi-final on grass, a surface which suits Muller's game in particular, although it does suggest it will be a tight match.

Former England soccer player David Beckham takes a selfie with his son as they watch the match between Sam Querrey of the United States and Jordan Thompson of Australia during day four of the Queen's Club tennis tournament in London, Thursday, June 22, 2017. I was playing really, really good throughout all the match.

A rain delay midway through the second set broke his rhythm though and Dimitrov seized his chance.

'But I am probably playing my best tennis.

The top seed lost his first match of the grass-court season last week in Stuttgart to Tommy Haas, but was in imperious form all week at Halle, culminating in the 6-1, 6-3 final victory over the home favourite Zverev. The Croat holds a 5-2 head-to-head advantage over the Lopez, with his latest win coming at French Open earlier this year. "It's a great feeling when you get that many matches in a row".

That was enough to seal the set for Dimitrov, but Lopez wasn't fazed and he clinched the deciding set with a break in the sixth and eighth games.

Rivals Hamilton, Vettel clash as Ricciardo wins chaotic race
It was an extraordinary performance from Stroll, the son of a billionaire, who faced heavy criticism earlier in the season. The race started at 5 p.m. local time with track temperatures at 53 degrees Celsius (127 Fahrenheit).

"It's the best week of my career - to win this tournament at this stage of my career, it's so awesome".

Cilic saved it with another ace for 7-7 but a forehand wide gave Lopez a second match point, this time on serve.

"I know it was going to be a tough match against Gregor, we had a tough final in 2014", said Lopez afterwards in a courtside interview.

Cilic was broken only once all week at Queen's but hard-hitting Lopez - now the oldest victor of this tournament in the Open era - saw him off in two tiebreaks. I was mixing it up and playing smart.
