Rand Paul Doesn't Support GOP Health Bill

The Senate bill would repeal the tax in 2018 - a year later than the House bill.

The Republican bill aims to deliver on one of Trump's central campaign promises to "repeal and replace" the 2010 law passed under Obama that expanded coverage to millions of Americans. The group gathered to demonstrate their position that CT lives are "on the line" as Senate Republicans launched their plan in Washington for peeling back former President Barack Obama's health care law. Protesters gathered at Reagan National Airport in Washington to confront Republican senators and doctors and nurses rallied in San Francisco on Thursday, while demonstrators gathered outside senators' offices on Friday in Arizona, Idaho, and Pennsylvania. He's dealing with an unpopular piece of legislation that affects almost every American personally and a diverse conference that includes moderates and conservatives, both of whom have problems with the bill. Brian Sandoval, also a Republican.

The Senate legislation drew support from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which said it would "stabilize crumbling insurance markets" and curb premium increases. That could result in a disproportionately sick group of people buying individual insurance, driving up carriers costs and prompting them to seek ways to trim coverage and cut claims. The House calls for doing it by 2020.

As the New York Times reported earlier this month, the House version of Trumpcare, which the president celebrated, proposed "reduc [ing] spending on Medicaid by over $800 billion, the largest single reduction in a social insurance program in our nation's history".

The proposal would by 2024 phase out funding for states like Kentucky that elected to expand their Medicaid programs under Obamacare. Now comes his next challenge - persuading enough Republicans to back the measure and avert a defeat that would be shattering for President Donald Trump and the GOP.

The president also said that he would meet with top security advisers Sunday before heading out on a scheduled trip to Europe. Among the dead was a 23-year-old French woman who was in the country volunteering, John Otis reports for NPR's Newscast.

Changes to federal matching payments for the state's 1.9 million Medicaid recipients would cost $2.9 billion.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate Republicans' new health bill cuts taxes by almost $1 trillion over the next decade, mostly for corporations and the richest families in America.

It also gives a tax break to 11,000 of the wealthiest West Virginians without doing anything for the other 920,000 taxpayers - and it pays for these cuts on the backs of our most vulnerable neighbors.

In Montana, 20 percent of residents didn't have medical insurance in 2013. Last year, some insurers even requested to lower their rates.

Democrats have blasted the Senate bill, with some calling it "meaner".

Georgia didn't sour on the GOP
In mid-June, Hannah Risheq, a 25-year-old Democrat from Virginia, lost a primary race for Virginia's 67 Legislative District. They must pick up 24 seats to do so. "The Democratic Party needs new leadership now", Cunningham tweeted on Wednesday.

Charlie Baker, the Republican governor in heavily Democratic Massachusetts, and Tom Wolf, a Democratic governor in Pennsylvania, had similar concerns.

She said that includes 30 million children and two out of three seniors in nursing homes.

Some Republicans argue that a Medicaid card or an "Obamacare" policy means little because either the doctor doesn't accept notoriously low Medicaid fees, or high deductibles under the health law keep patients from coming in.

“If the only people motivated to buy insurance are going to be the ones who really need it, insurers are really going to have a strong incentive to use their benefit design to deter enrollment for the sickest people, ” said Corlette. "We're bigger than NY with more people on Medicaid and they get $23 billion from the fed government", said Scott, a former health care executive.

A spokesman for Arizona's current governor, Republican Doug Ducey, said the governor was studying the GOP bill.
