Authorities: Texas mom left 2 kids in hot vehicle as punishment

A North Texas woman has been arrested in connection with the deaths of her two children from extreme heat exposure after they were found locked inside a auto last month, the Parker County Sheriff's Office says.

Police were called to her home near Lake Weatherford on May 26 where Randolph told police she found her two kids unresponsive after being locked inside a vehicle.

Randolph said around 12:15 p.m., she found her children playing inside her vehicle, and ordered her daughter out of the auto using profanity.

Cynthia Marie Randolph, 25, faces charges of first-degree felony counts of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury, according to Parker County Sheriff's investigators.

Randolph has been booked into the Parker Country Jail.

Temperatures reached approximately 96 degrees that day. After approximately 20 to 30 minutes, she said she realized she had not heard the children playing for a while and noticed they were not in the enclosed back porch area any longer.

The children were pronounced dead shortly after 4:30 p.m.

Randolph told the police her children had been inside the auto "no more than an hour". After searching the house for about 30 to 40 minutes, Randolph eventually went outside the residence and discovered they had somehow managed to lock themselves inside her auto.

North Korea: Otto Warmbier's death is a 'mystery'
Warmbier was traveling in North Korea with a tour group, and was arrested at Pyongyang airport as he was about to leave. North Korea is known for illegally detaining US citizens on false allegations of spying and anti-state crimes.

During multiple interviews, however, Randolph's account of what happened kept changing, officials said. The Tarrant County medical examiner's website identified the children as Juliet and Cavanaugh Ramirez.

Authorities say a Texas woman told investigators that she left her 2-year-old daughter and 16-month-old son in the hot vehicle where they died last month to teach the girl a lesson, and that they didn't lock themselves in, as she initially said. She claimed they had entered the auto on their own and locked themselves in, then said she broke one of the vehicle windows in an attempt to save the kids.

Randolph then told investigators she went into her home, smoked marijuana and went to sleep for two to three hours.

No bond has been set yet in her case.
