London fire: Cladding in other buildings 'combustible'

The Government has said that tests on cladding in other blocks shows that flammable material was used in a number of recent refurbishments elsewhere in Britain.

On Thursday, a spokesperson for the Department of Communities and local government told CNN that cladding used on a tower block in the Camden area of London has been found to be combustible following tests.

"Shortly before I came to the Chamber, I was informed that a number of these tests have come back as combustible".

"We can not and will not ask people to live in unsafe homes", she said, adding that relevant local authorities and fire services had been informed but without specifying what action would be taken.

At least 79 people were killed in the Grenfell Tower blaze, which left residents enraged by what they felt was a poor governmental response.

"Serving the families so desperately affected by the heart-breaking tragedy at Grenfell Tower remains the highest priority of the council".

May said that 151 homes were destroyed in the fire.

She praised volunteers, businesses and public servants for "stepping up" to help in the time of crisis, paying tribute to people of Kensington to opening their homes to victims.

May, in a statement to the House of Commons this morning, said that the council "couldn't cope" in the aftermath of the fire, and that it "was right" that the chief executive had stepped down.

As efforts continue to find permanent housing for those made homeless by the fire, the government said Wednesday that 68 apartments in a luxury London housing complex in Kensington Row would be allocated to Grenfell Tower residents.

It has acted as a focal point for anger at local authority funding cuts, drew accusations of criminal negligence and could test the government's ability to rehome people within the country's stretched housing stock.

"All victims, irrespective of their immigration status, will be able to access the services they need", she said.

Britain's opposition leader, Jeremy Corbyn, called for urgent checks on around 4,000 buildings as Britain comes to grips with the potential ramifications of the disaster.

She also insisted: "Nobody is being forced to move somewhere they don't want to go".

"For any guilty parties there will be nowhere to hide." she added.

May has apologized for mistakes that were made in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower tragedy and promised that "no stone will be left unturned" in a public inquiry into its causes.

One of the hospitals that treated victims of the inferno administered an antidote for hydrogen cyanide exposure to several people, the BBC said, but could not confirm whether it was given after a confirmed diagnosis, or as a precautionary measure.

The prime minister's statement before parliament came hours after Kensington and Chelsea council's CEO resigned following criticism of the borough's "chaotic" response to the Grenfell tragedy.

These countries have also either severely restricted Qatar Airways' access to or outright banned the airline from their airspace. Two Indian airlines found a place in the Skytrax Top 100 with IndiGo at the 57th position and Jet Airways at the 93rd position.

The letter goes on to say: "The FBU believes the public inquiry will fail the victims of the Grenfell fire and betray communities across the United Kingdom if it does not address the critical matter of fire safety protection for every home and every workplace".
