On Twitter, Trump decries obstruction probe related to

US President Donald Trump attacked what he called a "phony story" on Thursday after a report that he is under investigation for possible obstruction of justice by the special counsel probing alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 US presidential election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

For months President Donald Trump made it known that he's not personally under investigation as part of the probe into possible campaign ties to Russian Federation, but now it appears that could be changing.

It quoted five people briefed on the requests and said those who have agreed to be interviewed are Daniel Coats, the director of national intelligence, Admiral Mike Rogers, the head of the National Security Agency, and his recently departed deputy, Richard Ledgett.

Trump did not directly address the allegations he obstructed justice - a potentially impeachable offense - neither did he deny he has entered the miniscule ranks of sitting presidents who have become the subject of a criminal investigation.

President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Thursday to offer his first comments on news that he is being examined for possible obstruction of justice - an investigation he dismissed as part of the "phony" accusations of collusion between his campaign and Russian Federation a year ago.

On Monday, Trump's friend, Newsmax CEO Christopher Ruddy, suggested that Trump was considering firing Mueller from the independent investigation-a move administration officials and top Republican leaders strongly warned against.

A source on Trump's legal team attempted to clarify the missive, claiming he was reacting to media reports about the investigation rather than offering public confirmation.

Comey said the notes contain his recollections that Trump asked for his loyalty when they met for a January dinner and then urged him during a private meeting in the Oval Office two weeks later to drop an investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

Former Prime Minister Sir John Major led British tributes , calling Mr Kohl a towering figure in German and European history . Kohl became chancellor of West Germany in 1982 and served until 1990, then became chancellor of Germany after reunification.

It was unclear if Trump was referencing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein or Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Grassley's office said the letter is in response to a recent letter from Feinstein requesting that the committee seek details from senior Federal Bureau of Investigation leadership about Comey's interactions with President Donald Trump before he was sacked. "Nice", the president wrote on Twitter.

Trump wrote, "You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history - led by some very bad and conflicted people! Regulations way down, jobs and enthusiasm way up!"

The NSA said in a statement that the "NSA will fully cooperate with the special counsel". After a day of speculation, White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said, "While the president has the right to, he has no intention to do so".
