Bengaluru traffic cop allows an ambulance ahead of President of India's convoy

A Bengaluru traffic police officer, who dared to stop the President's convoy on June 17, without getting caught in a situation of Catch-22 to help an ambulance reach its destination, has been rewarded.

Bengaluru traffic police sub-inspector M L Nijalingappa today made way for an ambulance during the convoy movement of President Pranab Mukherjee.

Bengaluru City Police has rewarded Nijalingappa for his quick thinking and noble endeavour. He also ensured that the ambulance was allowed to pass through despite traffic being stopped on the route to make way for the President's convoy.

Abhei Goyal, Deputy Commissioner of Police -Traffic East Division, Bengaluru City, took to Twitter to praise officer ML Nijalingappa's presence of mind. He allowed an ambulance to move ahead of the President of India Pranab Mukherjee's convoy, despite the congested and infamous traffic of the city. The initiative of Nijalingappa has been appreciated by many on the social media followed by DCP and IPS tweeting his action and about the reward that he got. "As it was an emergency case, I allowed the ambulance to pass the junction immediately after passing the message to senior officials".

Twitter has been buzzing with reactions to the news, with some saying that what the officer did was to be expected and should not be hailed as an achievement, while others lauded the policeman's decision.
