Worshippers hit by van at London mosque

Police said they were called just after 12:20 a.m. (2320 GMT Sunday) to reports of a collision on Seven Sisters Road, which runs through the Finsbury Park area of north London.

A Sky News producer at the scene said the crash took place shortly after midnight local time as worshipers were leaving the Finsbury Park Mosque at midnight Ramadan prayers. The Guardian reported that 10 people were hurt, three of them seriously.

"Any causative link between his death and the attack will form part of our investigation", London deputy police commissioner Neil Basu said.

The lone suspect was taken to a hospital and treated for unspecified injuries before being placed under arrest on suspicion of attempted murder.

"We managed to put him on the floor and then he started shouting 'Kill me, kill me ".

"Given we are approaching the end of the month of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid with many Muslims going to local mosques, we expect the authorities to increase security outside mosques as a matter of urgency". "Inquiries continue. More information will be released when confirmed", police said in a statement.

The Guardian quoted an eyewitness, Boubou Sougou, as saying: "It was not an accident, I saw everything".

On Sunday, we celebrate so many fathers
I'm not close enough to help him celebrate, which is really hard, because he is a wonderful man and a wonderful role model. And if your dad is still around, you may just have the opportunity to look at him with softer eyes and a bigger heart.

"We have a witness saying that the guy who did what he did, the driver of the van, said 'I did my bit, ' which means he's not mentally ill", Kacimi said.

The Muslim Council of Britain said Monday's attack was the most violent manifestation of Islamophobia in Britain in recent months and called for extra security at places of worship.

The Met Police said eight were taken to hospital and several were seriously injured in the "terrorist attack".

The Finsbury Park Mosque opened in 1994 and became a hotbed of Islamist militants, including Zacarias Moussaoui, a Frenchman convicted of conspiring to kill Americans as part of the September 11, 2001, attacks, and Richard Reid, who attempted to down a US jetliner in late 2001 with explosives packed in his shoes.

Ali Habib, a 23-year-old student, said residents are angry that the mosque attack hasn't been portrayed in the same light as the other attacks across the country.

"And he just came into all of us".

One witness described being surrounded by bodies in the wake of the attack outside the nearby Muslim Welfare House.

Key Chelsea duo to stay at the club
Speculation that tension is growing between the Italian and Chelsea's hierarchy over these matters has been dismissed. However, Chelsea now have no intention of allowing Conte to leave the club despite his recent frustration.

"Finsbury Park is a diverse community, living together in harmony", Kozbar said.

But the police said they had responded "instantly" as officers were in the immediate vicinity.

British Prime Minister Theresa May says it's being treated as a "potential terrorist attack".

Opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, who is the MP for the area, said he was "totally shocked".

But another witness at the scene said the attacker did not say anything. There was a lot of people.

He told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "The way it works is pretty much there are very large spikes or spikes, we call them measurable spikes, after major terrorist incidences, so Islamist extremist incidences create the largest spikes we see".

Abdullah added that there were three people in the van and that two of them ran away.

One killed in London mosque attack
The Muslim Council tweeted that worshippers were struck by a van as they were leaving prayers near the Finsbury Park mosque . Scotland Yard said the man who died was already being treated having fallen ill before the incident unfolded.

The van hit pedestrians outside the Muslim Welfare House, another Islamic community facility near the mosque.
