Will Trump Executive Order Boost Restaurant Jobs?

Will Trump Executive Order Boost Restaurant Jobs?

President Trump signed an executive order from the White House Thursday promoting private apprenticeships as a way for individuals to learn skills that ultimately lead to full-time jobs.

Ivanka Trump, the daughter of and the assistant to the president, is reported to have worked with the executive order, which will remove federal restrictions that were viewed as impediments against forming apprenticeships for certain labor skills. The executive order permits industry groups to create their own apprenticeship programs and submit them to the Department of Labor for review and funding. While the executive order will take time to fully implement, it reflects the Trump administration's emphasis on expanding job opportunities for all workers, especially middle class jobs, while channeling taxpayer dollars into effective and successful apprenticeship and job training programs.

"So we're empowering these companies, unions, industry groups, and federal agencies to go out and create new apprenticeships for millions of our citizens", Trump said.

These programs enjoy a fair amount of bipartisan support, and have gotten a lot of buzz in recent months: In a March roundtable discussion, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff called on Trump to create 5 million apprenticeships in the next five years.

Eric Haban, 35, started as a youth apprentice as a junior in high school and then completed a four-year program at Lakeshore Technical College, located in between Sheboygan and Manitowoc.

The official said new Labor Department grants could be used to grow apprenticeship programs in community colleges and high schools and expand them to industries beyond the trades, such as agriculture and engineering.

Angry protesters storm local town hall after deadly London fire
Some Grenfell residents had warned months ago that fire safety issues at the tower left it at risk of a "catastrophic" event. Around a hundred people entered the town hall, and were held back by police and council officials.

Secretary Acosta said earlier this week business leaders have been eager to work with the administration on workforce development and indicated apprentices are in demand across the labor market.

The Trump administration is doing the right thing by helping to provide for alternatives to college. "We're training people to have great jobs and high-paying jobs", he said.

Fed up with the fake news reporting, Trump tweeted, "Heading to the Great State of Wisconsin to talk about JOBS, JOBS, JOBS!"

"We're very pleased that the administration is recognizing the role of our colleges and the importance of education paired with work-force opportunities for people", he said.

Through the Hospitality Sector Registered Apprenticeship project it now runs with the American Hotel and Lodging Association, the NRA said the program will identify at least 450 apprentices in the restaurant, food service and hospitality industry, and give them on-the-job paid training and standardized instruction to put them on track to achieve a management-level position.

Apprenticeships and job training, by contrast, generate nearly no partisan bickering, and mainstream economists generally approve. The aim is to present a fix to a big US problem: job skills.

Portugal declares three days of mourning over deadly forest blaze
French President Emmanuel Macron said in a message published on Twitter: "Solidarity with Portugal, hit by bad fires. Investigators believe the fire was sparked by a lightning strike during a "dry thunderstorm".

"If you're really interested in promoting apprenticeship, you have to invest in that skills training", said Mike Rosen, president of the Milwaukee chapter of the American Federation of Teachers union. Apprenticeships are an "earn while you learn" model that support many Utah families in attaining income stability while supporting employers in developing a skilled pipeline of workers.

Against this background, federally funded education and workforce development programs are not effectively serving American workers.

Trump will speak about the initiative from the White House at 11 a.m.

"There are now 6 million job openings in the United States - vacant jobs that can be filled", he said.

President Trump landed at General Mitchell International Airport just before 3:00 p.m. and met with what he called some "victims" of the Affordable Care Act, before giving brief remarks to reporters and roughly 100 invited supporters.

The motion was overwhelmingly rejected Tuesday with pastors and leaders calling it poorly written with inappropriate language. SBC President Steve Gaines wanted to make it clear that "we decry, we come against every kind of racism that there is".
