Van Strikes Pedestrians Outside Mosque in London

A van ploughed into worshippers leaving a London mosque on Monday, injuring 10 people.

"People now have a big question about safety in London after all these terrorist attacks, and we want to assure them that they are safe, and that's why we want to work with the police", Kozbar said.

Mohammed Iqbal, general secretary of Worcester Central Mosque, said: "Events like this don't help, they sow a seed of hate from the Muslim side - or any side".

John Campion, West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner, said the attack was particularly evil because it was committed during Ramadan.

Police say one person died when a van hit crowd of worshippers in north London and the Counter Terrorism Command is investigating the crash.

"I saw a man underneath the van".

I think at least eight or 10 people got injured.

- Van appears to be a hire vehicle from a company in Wales.

A van attack kills one outside London mosque
Counter-terrorism officers are investigating, and the Met Police have confirmed: "This is being treated as a terrorist attack ". She said her thoughts were with the injured, their loved ones and emergency officials who responded to the incident.

"There was this white van stopped outside Finsbury Park Mosque that seems to have hit people who were coming out of the mosque after prayers". It is not yet known if his death was a direct result of the attack. He will be given a mental-health evaluation. Two other people were treated at the scene for minor injuries but walked away. An imam prevented people from taking revenge on the man, he said.

Police said they had deployed extra officers "to reassure communities, especially those observing Ramadan".

Prime Minister Theresa May said that her thoughts were with the victims and their families, and that she would chair a Cobra emergency cabinet meeting this morning.

The attack was also condemned by London Mayor Sadiq Khan, Labour leader Corbyn, the Archbishop of Canterbury and mainstream figures such as Piers Morgan and J K Rowling.

- British Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis, who hosted an Iftar at his home last night for the local Muslim community, said "we must never allow hatred to breed hatred".

Earlier this month on London Bridge, Islamic extremists used a vehicle and then knives to kill eight people and wound many others on the bridge and in the popular nearby Borough Market area. Basu said it was a "challenging" time for London and that the emergency services were stretched.

"He turned left into the alleyway, and he just drove at people", eyewitness Abdiqadir Warra told AFP.

Describing the scene, he said there were people lying in the street, several with blood on their heads.

Ed Gillespie narrowly wins GOP primary for Governor
Stewart also gained attention during the primary campaign for his defense of Confederate monuments. "I will not campaign for him". Northam will be competing against Ed Gillespie , who won the Republican gubernatorial primary, for the November general election.

- Police have not named the man arrested, but the van bears the logo and phone number for Pontyclun Van Hire in south Wales. In March, a lone attacker drove his vehicle into people on Westminster Bridge, then fatally stabbed a police officer at the gates of Parliament. "He was fighting to run away".

Video footage showed how, in the immediate aftermath, the pair guarded the man for roughly 20 minutes until police arrived, telling angry onlookers: "Do not touch him".

Abdulrahman claimed the driver said "Kill me" as he was being held on the ground by the crowd.

"Yes we do have to tackle extremism and radicalisation but we can't actually see that this is one and the same", he said.

Counter-terror officials said they were closely monitoring terror activity linked to far-right groups but most of the recent attacks have been traced to individuals rather than groups.

'It was an attack that once again targeted the ordinary and the innocent going about their daily lives. It also comes at a tumultuous time for the government with Britain starting complex divorce talks with the European Union and May negotiating with a small Northern Irish party to stay in power after losing her parliamentary majority following a snap election. "Mosque safety needs to be stepped up and this includes entry and exit points", it said in a statement. On May 22, a suicide attack killed 22 people and injured almost 60 after an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester. Police said he was already receiving first aid when the attack unfolded. "This was an attack on London and all Londoners".

Another eyewitness, who gave his name as Athman, told AFP: "People were screaming: 'It's a terrorist attack, it's an attack, this guy attacked us, ' and I had to run back and tried to save people who were still alive and giving water, helping the police".
