UK government delays Queen's Speech

The official opening of United Kingdom parliament and the Queen's Speech - a key annual event in which the government lays out its policy agenda - will take place two days later than scheduled following the result of the snap election last week.

The leader of the House of Commons, Andrea Leadsom gave details of the opening ceremony in a brief official statement.

The State Opening had been scheduled to take place on the same date as when Brexit negotiations were due to begin in Brussels.
