Trump appears to confirm obstruction probe, attacks Rosenstein in Twitter rant

And it was Rosenstein who appointed Robert Mueller as special counsel to investigate Russian involvement in the 2016 presidential election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

Christopher Ruddy, a friend of the president's, on Monday first said that Trump had been "weighing" whether to fire Mueller, who was appointed by Rosenstein after Trump fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey in May.

In a May 9 memo, Rosenstein lambasted then-FBI Director James Comey for his handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email server. Trump said he wanted to fire Comey for "showboating", among other charges.

Rosenstein was not pleased by this.

Trump Confidant: Ruddy Hurt Trump's Ability To Fire Mueller
Mueller, who preceded Comey as Federal Bureau of Investigation director, was the longest-serving director since J. That, to me, is the smartest thing to do, the best thing to do, and that's what I think hopefully will happen.

Rosenstein's statement read: "Americans should exercise caution before accepting as true any stories attributed to anonymous 'officials, ' particularly when they do not identify the country-let alone the branch or agency of government-with which the alleged sources supposedly are affiliated".

Republican senators on Thursday had urged Trump not to fire Mueller or disrupt the special counsel probe. Sekulow added that the confirmatory tone of Trump's tweet was due to Twitter's word limit, "There's a limitation on Twitter, as we all know". According to the same AP/NORC poll, the president's job disapproval rating has jumped to 64 percent (with 35 percent approving of his job performance), with 65 percent responding that they believe Donald Trump has no respect for America's democratic institutions. The intelligence committee is the lead congressional panel on the Russian Federation hacking scandal, including highly publicized hearings with fired FBI Director James Comey and Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Trump believes all his current troubles stem from that decision.

Mueller was originally appointed special council to determine the extent of Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Trump cited the memo in firing Comey.

Ultimately, it would be up to Mueller to decide whether there is enough evidence to recommend pursuing charges on any part of the investigation. In that capacity, Rosenstein has the power to determine what resources and personnell Mueller has at his disposal - and, ultimately, whether or not the Justice Department pursues prosecutions on the basis of his findings. "But regardless of [the] recommendation, I was going to fire Comey, knowing there was no good time to do it".

The course has still been punitive enough to take a chunk out of the top three players in the world , all of whom missed the cut. The runner-up finish, along with a $1 million check, moved him into the top 50 and secured his spot in the Masters and U.S.

Dianne Feinstein, top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said she was "increasingly concerned" that Trump will fire both Mueller and Rosenstein.

Unless, that is, Rosenstein sidelines himself.

Through a spokesman, Trump's personal attorney, Marc Kasowitz, blasted the Post's report, though he stopped short of denying it.

Comey had accused Trump of firing him to try to undermine the FBI's investigation of a possible collusion between the Trump Campaign and Russian Federation in alleged efforts to influence last year's presidential election. If he fires Sessions, Rosenstein would become acting attorney general until the Senate confirms a permanent replacement.

Theresa May hold talks with DUP to form government
If that happens, Corbyn will demand a chance to try to form a government by uniting progressive factors in the House of Commons . Talks with the DUP broke up last night without an agreement, but Mrs May said the discussions had been "productive".

If Rosenstein were to recuse himself, the responsibility of overseeing the special counsel would fall to the department's third-highest-ranking official, Rachel Lee Brand, who was confirmed a month ago to be associate attorney general.
