Driver plows into crowd outside London mosque, injuring 10

Police attend to the scene after a vehicle rammed pedestrians in London's Finsbury Park.

A police forensic tent erected at Finsbury Park in north London, where one man has died, eight people taken to hospital and a person arrested after a van struck pedestrians.

Imam Mohammed Mahmoud, of the Muslim Welfare House, has been hailed a hero for stepping in to protect the suspected attacker, a 48-year-old man, telling the furious mob: "Do not touch him".

London Van Attack has been termed as the potential terror attack by the Prime Minister of England, Theresa May.

A dozen police officers stood guard on a balmy Monday morning at the cordon at the junction of Yonge Park and Seven Sisters Road while several locals looked on.

One fatality was confirmed at the scene, while a further eight are being treated across three London hospitals and two victims sustained minor injuries.

Witnesses described seeing police giving emergency medical treatment to victims after the incident at 12.20am on Monday in Seven Sisters Road, Finsbury Park.

The Muslim Council of Britain, an umbrella body, posted on Twitter that a van ran over worshippers as they left Finsbury Park Mosque after prayers.

Long road: Koepka's journey now includes a US Open title
Open scoring record, finishing 16-under 272 at the expansive but easy-playing course 35 miles northwest of Milwaukee. McIlroy and Tiger Woods (12 under at Pebble Beach in 2000) had been the only players to finish there.

Harun Khan of the Muslim Council of Britain says eyewitness accounts and videos taken appear to show that a "white man in a van intentionally plowed into a group of worshippers who were already tending to someone who had been taken ill".

"Given we are approaching the end of the month of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid with many Muslims going to local mosques, we expect the authorities to increase security outside mosques as a matter of urgency".

He told BuzzFeed: "I think at least eight or 10 people got injured". The suspect was restrained by the passers-by during the incident and then handed over to the police.

Police said they will investigate whether they died as a result of the attack or something else, and the force is trying to contact the next of kin.

Witnesses told the media the van was being driven at the speed of 50 miles per hour and veered off the road deliberately into worshippers, who were leaving prayers on Seven Sisters Road, near Finsbury Park station, shortly after midnight.

Abdikadir Warfa, who was on the street at the time, said the van turned into an alleyway and hit a number of people before coming to a stop.

He was first detained by members of the public as they waited for police to arrive on the scene.

Koepka caps a record week with US Open title
It was awesome to me that he said in the presentation ceremony that he felt "confident" throughout the entire round today. Koepka was a cumulative 12-under on the back nine, with his only bogey coming Sunday on No. 10 thanks to a three-putt.

The Muslim Council said Monday's attack was the most violent manifestation of Islamophobia in Britain in recent months and called for extra security at places of worship.

Figures on terror-related arrests have shown an increasing number of white suspects are being held. "We stopped the guy and we put him on the floor and people managed to call police", Hashi said, showing CNN his bruises. Officers on patrol nearby were at the scene within seconds and made one arrest.

The Muslim welfare house said in a statement following the incident: "We have worked very hard over decades to build a peaceful and tolerant community here in Finsbury Park and we totally condemn any act of hate that tries to drive our wonderful community apart".

He said: "My thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected".

Britain's terrorist alert level is now at "severe" meaning an attack is highly likely.

Two weeks earlier, a suicide bomber killed 22 people at a concert by American pop singer Ariana Grande in Manchester in northern England. Vanzella said she went to the window and saw "loads of people gathering" in a corner across the road from her window.

"This is being treated as a terrorist attack".

The witness mentioned that a police patrol auto, which was passing on the road nearby, immediately drove over to the scene.
