58 presumed dead in Grenfell Tower tower fire in London: Cops

British Prime Minister Theresa May, praising the emergency and community reaction to the fatal incident, acknowledged on Saturday the response hadn't been "good enough" and vowed a full inquiry into the fire.

Police now say at least 58 people are presumed dead following a horrific fire Wednesday that destroyed a high-rise apartment building - and the people who lived there are demanding answers.

Fifty-eight people are confirmed missing, suspected dead, in the fire at the Grenfell Tower, with that number expected to rise. They previously estimated the figure to be 30.

On Friday angry protesters chanting "We want justice" stormed their way into the Kensington and Chelsea town hall to try to confront the leaders of the local council.

A representative of the families who met with May and spoke to reporters briefly after leaving 10th Downing Street said "we will be making this in the community, with the community".

Mrs May has promised a public inquiry into the catastrophe, and also pledged £5 million (Dh23.5m) of support, housing guarantees and help with access to bank accounts and cash. "I said 'why you didn't come - they brought us outside, I thought you are with us.' He said 'no one brought me outside.' He said, 'why you left me?'"

First Secretary of State Damian Green, May's deputy, said the prime minister was "distraught" and shared "the same degree of sympathy and horror" as everyone else.

Key Chelsea duo to stay at the club
Speculation that tension is growing between the Italian and Chelsea's hierarchy over these matters has been dismissed. However, Chelsea now have no intention of allowing Conte to leave the club despite his recent frustration.

"As a nation, we continue to reflect and pray for all those who have been directly affected by these events".

"Of course, this disappoints me as I gave an assurance on behalf of the government at the time, based on the advice of officials that we would do this".

Ms Berejiklian said she also believes it is appropriate to have a discussion about national laws relating to regulations.

A protest calling more effective action to help the survivors was staged in front of the Downing Street.

One banner showed a drawing of May with the words "Shame" and "Disgrace".

She says she will receive daily reports from the stricken neighbourhood, where hundreds of people have been displaced.

Having visited residents and volunteers near the tower on Friday with her grandson William, the queen also led a minute's silence in Buckingham Palace on Saturday.

"It is hard to escape a very somber national mood", the queen said in a statement to mark her official birthday - an occasion that typically does not result in any public comments from the monarch.

"As recent awful events in London and Manchester have brought to light, Blue Light workers do an extremely challenging job, encountering hard and traumatic situations", he said.

"United in our sadness, we are equally determined, without fear or favour, to support all those rebuilding lives so horribly affected by injury and loss". She said after the meeting that there have been "huge frustrations" in the community as people tried to get information.

Her failure to win a majority in an election she did not need to call had already sparked a tumultuous week and pitched Britain into its deepest political crisis since the Brexit referendum a year ago.

Sheffield City Council said the checks by the fire service were "precautionary" and created to reassure residents.

"Wallowing in the wash of a general election that stripped our prime minister of her authority on the very eve of European Union negotiations, neither common sense nor the evidence suggest she can re-establish public confidence", Matthew Parris wrote.
