Attorney All-Stars: Mueller Constructs Legal Team for Trump Probe

Soon after Comey's ouster, Rosenstein-who had been Comey's direct superior at the Justice Department-appointed Mueller, a former Federal Bureau of Investigation director himself and a friend of Comey's, to lead a wide-ranging probe, ostensibly focused on Russian meddling in the US presidential election but also encompassing a host of allegations made against Trump and his associates..

Trump fired FBI Director James B. Comey, sent out spokespeople and surrogates with a far-fetched cover story to explain the dismissal, and then told NBC's Lester Holt that the real reason for the firing was Comey's pursuit of the Russian Federation investigation.

Trump may have been referring to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who wrote a highly critical memo about Comey last month.

Mr Mueller was appointed as special counsel to investigate Moscow's involvement in the presidential election a year ago and possible collusion by Trump campaign associates with the Russians, but there has been no indication that Mr Mueller told the president to fire Mr Comey.

Other presidents have managed to compartmentalize investigations and go about the business of governing, but Trump seems consumed by the Mueller probe.

Dow ticks up; grocery stores plunge after Amazon deal
In Whole Foods , Amazon is acquiring a company that has recently come under pressure from investors for its lagging performance. The grocery store business has been rapidly changing, but today that change just might have gone into overdrive.

Kushner, the adviser and son-in-law of President Donald Trump, met separately with the Russian ambassador to the United States and a Russian businessman in December - interactions that were already under scrutiny as part of the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe.

The tweet may be a reference to Mr Rosenstein, who previously wrote a memo supporting Mr Comey's firing and is now assisting in the Justice Department's investigation.

"The message the president is sending through his tweets is that he believes the rule of law doesn't apply to him and anyone who thinks otherwise will be fired".

He has tweeted four times Friday morning, also lashing out at the news media and insisting that economy is doing well "despite the phony Witch Hunt" he spent some of Thursday decrying on Twitter as well.

The Post quoted officials as saying an obstruction of justice investigation targeting the president began between Comey's firing and Mueller's appointment, suggesting once again that the Justice Department was Trump's target. The Washington Post reported Mueller may be interested in a meeting in which Trump allegedly urged Rogers and Coats to convince Comey to back off the probe into ousted National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. The president has long vehemently denied any collusion with Moscow. An official of Trump's transition confirmed the laywer's internal order sent Thursday.

Rep. Steve Scalise's condition upgraded to 'serious'
Griner remains hospitalized at MedStar Hospital after getting shot in the ankle, and Sava described her in good condition. The congressman underwent another surgery Saturday, and the hospital says he is more responsive and speaking with family.

Not for the first time, Trump gives a false impression of what's really going on.

Earlier this month, Rosenstein told The Associated Press that "if anything that I did winds up being relevant to his investigation then, as Director Mueller and I discussed, if there's a need from me to recuse, I will".

The latest social media outburst by the president on his personal Twitter account came after a Washington Post report that Mueller is looking into the financial transactions of Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who is a senior adviser to the president. "Regulations way down, jobs and enthusiasm way up!" I didn't see any interaction between Trump and Rosenstein.

President Donald Trump says it's "sad" that seven months of investigations and hearings into possible links between his campaign and Russian Federation have been fruitless.

Vice President Mike Pence sent out this tweet shortly after the rant. He has questioned why investigators don't dig into the links between the Democrats and the Russian government, including his general election opponent, Hillary Clinton.
