Officer who shot Philando Castile found not guilty

The verdict, which came on the fifth day of deliberations, followed the acquittal last month of an Oklahoma police officer who killed an unarmed black man and, of particular interest in Minnesota, a prosecutor's decision a year ago not to charge the Minneapolis officers who killed another black man, Jamar Clark.

During the trial, Yanez argued that he fired into the auto because he thought Castile was going for his registered gun. "Those are the things in Officer Yanez's head".

Dayton drew criticism a year ago after suggesting that Castile might not have been shot if he was white. The shooter, Micah Johnson, said he acted in retaliation for killings of black men by police officers, police officials said.

Prosecutors said Yanez was not justified in firing his gun, saying that Castile was courteous and non-threatening.

Yanez will not return to active duty, the city said. "Sir, I have to tell you, I do have a firearm on me".

Ploussard says jurors spent a lot of time dissecting the "culpable negligence" requirement for conviction. He says the last two holdouts eventually agreed on acquittal.

He would not identify the two early holdouts, but said they were not the jurys only two black members. "I thought I was going to die". Glenda Hatchett, a lawyer for the Castile family, said Friday. "My son loved this city and this city killed my son and the murderer gets away". Outside of the courthouse, Valerie expressed her outrage over the verdict. She pointed out her son was wearing a seatbelt and had his girlfriend and her daughter in the vehicle.

Philando Mother spoke to the press today and continues to assert that her son was murdered by Minnesota Police Officer Jeronimo Yanez.

The jury deliberated five days before reaching its verdict.

Tom Kelly was among attorneys representing Officer Jeronimo Yanez.

A memorial including a photo of Philando Castile adorns the gate to the governor's residence in St. Paul, Minn., July 2016.

On the video footage, Yanez can be heard saying, "OK don't reach for it then".

KSTP reporters on scene said the event is peaceful. He's found innocent on all counts. It was read in court at 2:45 p.m. Castile's family angrily stormed out as soon as the verdicts were read.

The ACLU said that the jury's decision to acquit Yanez is "part of a disturbing national pattern of officers using execessive force against people of color, often during routine encounters". "He let the officer know that he had a firearm and that he was reaching for his wallet, and the officer just shot him in his arm".

Yanez's defense attorneys also maintained that Castile was high at the time of the shooting.

Castile had a permit for the weapon.

Castile's death garnered widespread attention after his girlfriend broadcast the shooting's aftermath on Facebook Live.

The squad-car video shows Yanez approaching Castile's vehicle and asking for a driver's license and proof of insurance. He shot Castile seconds later, after Castile informed him he was carrying a gun.

3-year-old girl dies during dental procedure in Stockton
Two tooth extractions, two molars removed, and two teeth capped is what she was scheduled to have done. She was a friendly toddler who was playing just minutes before she was called in to see the dentist.

She said Friday that she was "incredibly disappointed with the jury's verdict". "Philando Castile got victimized by the system".

Castile was shot with Reynolds and her 4-year-old daughter in the vehicle.

The jury began deliberations on Monday.

Yanez had testified that he was afraid for his life and that Castile did not follow his orders.

Minnesotans continue to grieve with them, for their awful loss. The judge denied both requests.

"Well they didn't see all the evidence we did", he said. He was pulled over by Officer Yanez on July 7th in a routine traffic stop.

Last Friday, Yanez attested that Castile had a gun in his pocket. Prosecutors argue he overreacted to a man who wasn't a threat.

Castile's death set off protests in the area, mirroring the reactions to numerous other police-involved shootings of people of color.

Minnesota Public Radio reported that Yanez told the court that Castile was not complying with his commands.
