'I can still be Prime Minister': Corbyn

British Prime Minister Theresa May on Friday visited Queen Elizabeth II to obtain permission to form a minority government with the DUP's support after her Conservative Party lost her parliamentary majority in the general election. "We can't go on with a period of great instability" he said, adding that the Labour Party was ready to fight another election campaign.

Several Conservative lawmakers have warned she can not carry on indefinitely, after throwing away a 17-seat majority in the 650-seat House of Commons.

Ahead of her coalition announcement, main opposition Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn said May's attempt to win a bigger mandate had backfired and also called on her to resign.

Johnson denied he is considering a leadership challenge, tweeting Saturday that the rumors were "tripe". "Let's get on with the job".

Two of the U.K. Prime Minister's key advisers have resigned following her Conservative party's performance in Thursday's election.

The results left the Tories 12 short of the required majority and this will embolden anti- Brexit parties.

Statehood wins questioned Puerto Rico referendum
Puerto Rican voters made their way to the polling centers Sunday to vote on whether or not they want to become the 51st US state. It would draw more investment, they say, and allow the island to tap federal funding that is more-restricted for territories.

The change was unlikely to significantly quell unrest within the party.

Damian Green, the former work and pensions secretary, was named first secretary of state - effectively the deputy prime minister. "We will defend the interests of the 27 member states, and Britain will defend its own interests", she told a press conference. It aligns London more closely with the pro-British side in the divided province, where a power-sharing government with Irish nationalists is suspended.

"My phone is full of texts from lots and lots of people from right across the party", he said.

May had planned to negotiate for a so-called "hard Brexit", which would see the United Kingdom leave the EU's single market for failing to allow freedom of movement.

Her party is deeply divided over what it wants from Brexit.

Ex-minister Gavin Barwell, who lost his seat in Thursday's election, was named as the new chief of staff, replacing Timothy and Ms Hill.

Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson, who wields considerable influence after the Scottish Tories won 13 seats, said: "I want to ensure that we can look again at issues like Brexit which we know we are now going to have to get cross-party support for".

European Council President Donald Tusk has warned there is "no time to lose" in starting Brexit talks, after May on March 29 started the two-year countdown to ending Britain's four-decade membership.

An ally of Johnson told the newspaper: "We are facing a populist and they have realised we need someone who can talk to the people".
