Police at London Bridge after car reportedly plows into people

Mark Rowley, assistant commissioner of London's Metropolitan Police Service, said the attackers were shot and killed by police. Police say the suspects jumped out of the van and stabbed pedestrians and an off-duty British Transport Police officer.

The incident comes days after Manchester Attack in May which left 22 people dead, including some children. Reuters television pictures showed dozens of emergency vehicles in the area around London Bridge.

Witnesses also told of men with large knives stabbing passersby at nearby Borough Market, according to the AP.

The incident happened on a warm Saturday night in a busy area full of bars and restaurants.

Armed police rushed to the scene and authorities urged Londoners on Twitter to "run, hide, tell" if they were caught in an attack. Police have reported several deaths and multiple injuries.

"A white van driver came speeding. veered off the road into the crowds of people who were walking along the pavement", according to BBC reporter Holly Jones who was at London Bridge.

The Metropolitan Police in London have responded to a situation that they are "dealing with an incident" on the London Bridge . After that attack, Britain's official threat level from terrorism was raised to "critical", meaning an attack may be imminent.

President Donald Trump took to Twitter Saturday evening to argue in favor of his proposed travel ban amid reports of a terror attack in London.

"Whatever the United States can do to help out in London and the UK, we will be there - we are with you".

"It's just hard being over here in the states, because we live here now and looking on the news with the things back home, there's nothing we can do".

That includes the attack on London's attack on Westminster Bridge earlier this year.

After a white van ploughed into pedestrians on London Bridge around 10.10pm local time (7.10am AEST), police confirmed that they were responding to incidents at Borough Market and Vauxhall.

Soon after they responded to a stabbing in the Vauxhall area, over a mile away, but they said that incident is not connected to the others.

CNN obtained an eyewitness account that described "a man with a "massive knife" entered the restaurant at Borough Market, just south of the bridge, and stabbed two people inside".
