Police at London Bridge after auto reportedly plows into people

At least two people are dead and another four injured in London after a van plowed into pedestrians on busy London Bridge late Saturday night.

One told the BBC a white van veered off the road and struck as many as six people. According to the London Ambulance Service, at least 20 people have been taken to six hospitals following the London Bridge incident.

Another witness told Reuters she saw three people who appeared to have their throats cut.

British Transport Police said they have received reports of multiple casualties.

London's transport authority said London Bridge rail station had been closed at the request of the police.

- The attack came less than two weeks after a suicide bomber Salman Abedi blew himself up at a concert in Manchester on May 22, killing at least 22.

In March, four people were killed in London after Khalid Masood rammed his auto into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge, before fatally stabbing a policeman outside the Houses of Parliament.

The suspects were confronted and shot by police at Borough Market within eight minutes of the first emergency call being made. She said it was a fast-moving investigation and her thoughts were with "those who are caught up in these terrible events".

It tweeted that people must "RUN - to a place of safety". Unverified social media accounts said two men were stabbing civilians. BBC reporter Holly Jones says the van was probably traveling around 50 miles an hour when it mounted the curb and crashed directly into pedestrians.

Witnesses said that soon after the van incident on the London Bridge, a knife-wielding man started charging towards a bar packed with people, reported AFP. He told the BBC he saw three men shot by police. "Our thoughts are with those who are caught up in these awful events".

British national Khalid Masood carried out an attack in March by mowing down pedestrians on Westminster Bridge before attacking police outside of the parliament building.

It is too early to say whether the incidents in London are militant attacks, European security officials told Reuters. "Canada will always stand by the people of London".

The Metropolitan Police in London have responded to a situation that they are "dealing with an incident" on the London Bridge . After that attack, Britain's official threat level from terrorism was raised to "critical", meaning an attack may be imminent.
