Dixon captures third career Indy 500 pole

Dixon captures third career Indy 500 pole

Two-time Formula One champion Fernando Alonso will start fifth in his Indianapolis 500 debut next weekend.

Though the change was completed in time, Alonso says a further engine problem during his four-lap run in the "Fast 9" segment of qualifying prevented him from challenging Scott Dixon's eventual pole-winning average speed of 232.164mph.

The run was impressive for any driver, let alone one who had never raced on an oval before reporting to Indy this May; his average speed was 231.300 miles per hour and it put him on the pole until Alexander Rossi, last year's 500 victor, knocked him off about 15 minutes later.

But the most intriguing story might be the quest of Fernando Alonso, who is skipping Monaco to run his first oval race.

Things started changing when he turned to two former F1 drivers and current teammates with Andretti Autosport - defending Indy victor Alexander Rossi and Japan's Takuma Sato - for advice.

CT and will pit LSU ace Alex Lange versus a potent Southeastern offense that averaged 6.9 runs per game in the regular season. After Antoine Duplantis lined out to second base, Greg Deichmann singled to score Freeman from second to put LSU up 2-1.

The incident took place just a few hours after Dixon had won the pole for this Sunday's race, which will be the 101st race to happen at Indy 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

After getting out of the auto, Alonso said a slight hiccup on the final corner of the final lap kept him from producing an even bigger number.

"I really wanted to make a good performance for them because they worked so hard and there was a chance that we might not be able to qualify".

Wind and track temperatures that reached 45.6 degrees made for challenging racing conditions, causing Japan's Takuma Sato to brush up against the wall twice during his run. Franchitti and Brazil's Helio Castroneves are the only foreign-born drivers to win the Indy 500 three times.

Predators need to stick with Pekka Rinne in goal against the Penguins
The Penguins are listed with a money line of +115 to prevail, while the over/under total for the game is set at 5.5 goals. Sometimes these preferences are created because of matchups, and in other cases, there's no rhyme or reason to it.

Sausalito's JR Hildebrand (230.889) will start on the outside of Row 1 in sixth.

Dixon won the 2008 Indy 500 from the pole. "You can win it with speed and talent like (Juan Pablo) Montoya did in 2015 or you can have a little bit of luck, like (Alexander) Rossi did past year when it goes well with the fuel".
