Shoving, threats between reps on House floor during protests at Capitol

Irving's Matt Rinaldi celebrated being named one of the Observer's worst representatives of the 2017 session with a bang Monday by calling U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on people protesting Texas' new anti-sanctuary city law at the state Capitol.

Rinaldi defended his actions in a statement posted on Twitter shortly after the events, writing, "I called ICE on several illegal immigrants who held signs in the gallery that said, 'I am an illegal immigrant and here to stay.'" The rest of Rinaldi's tweet outlines threats that were allegedly made against him from Democratic lawmakers.

Rinaldi then said that another Democratic representative, Ramon Romero "physically assaulted" him, then "Poncho told me that he would "get me on the way to my car", something Rinaldi says he later repeated.

"I made it clear that if he attempted to, in his words, 'get me, ' I would shoot him in self defense", he added.

United States starts first test of key defense against ICBM attack
The test was a major challenge because an intercontinental ballistic missile flies faster than a shorter-range missile. Pyongyang has conducted five nuclear tests since 2006 and a number of long-range missile tests since 1998.

This did not go over well with some of his colleagues, including state Rep. Poncho Nevárez, a Democrat, who stood face-to-face with Rinaldi.

Hundreds of protesters from across Texas and the nation descended upon the Capitol on the final day of the Legislature to protest against the state's newly signed sanctuary cities ban, filling the Texas House's gallery in red shirts and unveiling banners that read "See you at the polls".

Monday was the last day of the Texas legislative session that began in January.

Another House Democrat accused Rinaldi of threatening a fellow lawmaker. A scuffle almost ensued before other lawmakers separated the two.

Verdasco stuns in-form Zverev in two-stage win
The 30-year-old has endured a trying 2017 with bouts of illness as well as an elbow injury conspiring against him and his form. It's not the end of the world, OK? "It was a decent start, considering obviously how I played in the buildup", Murray noted.

"There was a threat made from Representative Rinaldi to put a bullet in one of my colleagues' heads", state Rep. Justin Rodriguez said during the news conference. They informed anxious immigrants about the rights they retain despite the law and urged grassroots resistance against it.

Police also can ask the immigration status of anyone they stop.

"A little scuffle broke out, and I got in there and when I realized what it was about and what he was doing and saying, you know, I got in his face and I put my hands on the guy", Nevárez recounted.

OPEC extends oil output cut by nine months
The world's major oil producers have voted to continue their production cuts into 2018 in an attempt to prop up the oil price. They wanted more evidence that a recent slowdown in USA growth was "transitory before taking another step" to raise rates.

President Donald Trump's anti-immigrant rhetoric has left immigrants across the country anxious for their safety. The law was passed amid a national conversation about immigration enforcement priorities and promises from the Trump administration to aggressively pursue and deport illegal immigrants.
