AJ Tracey backs Jeremy Corbyn, explains why he's voting Labour

Prime Minister Theresa May and Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn will face a live studio audience and a tough TV interviewer as the general election campaign moves to the airwaves.

British Prime Minister Theresa May's narrowing lead in opinion polls ahead of the June 8 election has weakened sterling and raised questions over whether she will win the landslide predicted just a month ago.

"He is simply not ready to govern and not prepared to lead", she said.

With polls showing May is more trusted to deliver Brexit than Corbyn, she will look to keep the election debate tightly focused on the upcoming talks, seeking to recover from a backlash to her plans to make elderly voters pay more towards the cost of their old age care.

But Brexit Secretary David Davis said Mrs May "brought it back to the fundamentals" over Britain's European Union exit, while Home Secretary Amber Rudd said Mr Corbyn's answers were "really worrying for security".

Mr Corbyn replied the country was "badly divided between the richest and the poorest", and more needed to be done so children didn't go to school hungry and learn in "super-sized" classrooms.

The Prime Minister said that the funding of the health service is linked to the performance of the economy, but she was committed to increasing funds for the NHS.

While more than half, 53%, said they believed Theresa May would make the best prime minister, support for Mr Corbyn is rising at 30 per cent, an increase of nine points since a GMB/Survation poll on May 5 and 6.

As May has refused to debate on TV with Corbyn, the party leaders answered questions from members of the public in a studio audience and during one-on-one sessions with the notoriously persistent journalist. Our National Health Service - the institution which is there for us at the most hard times - needs us to make a success of Brexit to ensure we can afford to provide it with the resources it needs for the future.
