Sean Spicer could be casualty of Trump staff reshuffle

A White House in crisis scrambled to allay public concern over reports that Donald Trump's son-in-law sought a secret communications link to Russia-a bombshell allegation the USA president swatted down as "fabricated".

The allegations came after Kushner was said to be under scrutiny as part of the Federal Bureau of Investigation inquiry into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

"Whenever you see the words "sources say" in the fake news media, and they don't mention names", Trump wrote on Twitter, "it is very possible that those sources don't exist but are made up by fake news writers".

Frustrated with what he views as his team's inability to push back against the drumbeat of new revelations, Trump is seeking expanded teams of lawyers and experienced public relations hands.

"Trump dismissed as "#FakeNews" the anonymously sourced Washington Post and New York Times reports that his top adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner had suggested back-channel communications with Russian Federation.

Iraq's Iran-backed paramilitary advances toward Syria border
Mosul had been the last major IS stronghold in Iraq, but recent offenses have cornered the jihadists into select pockets of the old city.

Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly says he doesn't know if those reports are true but describes back-channel communications as a "good thing".

"It is my opinion that numerous leaks coming out of the White House are fabricated lies made up by the #FakeNews media", he wrote.

Kushner has been under tremendous scrutiny following a Washington Post report Friday that said he spoke with a top Russian official in December about establishing a private communications channel.

Trump called his maiden trip overseas a "home run", but while the White House had hoped it would serve as a reset, attention on the Russian Federation probe has only increased.

"British Prime Minister May was very angry that the info the United Kingdom gave to U.S. about Manchester was leaked", he wrote on Twitter. Multiple sources told NBC News that changes are still coming in a White House that has become known for its palace intrigue and publicly aired internal politics.

U.S. media said the White House is creating a new rapid-fire communications unit to respond to the controversy, led by Kushner, senior presidential adviser Steve Bannon and White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus. He is reported to have done so before Trump assumed the presidency, so would have been a private citizen at the time.

He remains an influential confidant within the White House, as does his wife, Ivanka Trump. "In addition to that, and perhaps more importantly, he is a very good person". "You have to ask, well, who are they hiding the conversation from?" he said on ABC.

U.S. representative Adam Schiff, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said such secret channels may be used in situations including peace talks with the Taliban in Afghanistan or for the release of American hostages.

The wider investigation into Russia's alleged election meddling is being led by Robert Mueller, a respected former FBI director who was given broad powers to pursue the case as a special counsel. "#FakeNews is the enemy!" But they did not dismiss the idea that the administration would go outside normal USA government and diplomatic channels for communications with other countries.

The Times wrote Sunday that "For Mr. Trump, Ms. Meyer's performance violated two major rules".

DHS chief says reported Russian back-channel not a 'big deal'
Schiff said he expects Kushner, who serves as a senior adviser to Trump, will soon be asked to testify before his House committee. The FBI declined to comment, while the Russian embassy said it was policy not to comment on individual diplomatic contacts.
