Investigation launched into how Manchester bomber slipped through the security services' net

At least 22 people, including children, were killed and 59 others were wounded Monday in a suicide attack that targeted concertgoers following a performance by US singer Ariana Grande in the United Kingdom city of Manchester.

It came hours after the Home Secretary said members of attacker Salman Abedi's terror network could still be at large, despite optimism that a wave of arrests had quelled further threats.

The attack, which has been claimed by the Islamic State jihadist group, targeted young fans at the end of a concert by USA teen pop idol Ariana Grande.

The police statement said one of the last places he went to was a "city centre flat and from there he left to make his way to the Manchester Arena", where the attack took place.

Prime Minister Theresa May said on Saturday that developments in the probe into the bombing meant intelligence experts had chose to lower the threat level from its highest rating "critical", meaning an attack could be imminent, to "severe", meaning an attack is highly likely.

She said: "There is - the operation is still at, really at full tilt in a way and so until the operation is complete we can't be entirely sure that it's closed".

Police appealed for anyone with knowledge of the whereabouts of the killer between May 18, when he returned to the United Kingdom from his family home in Libya, and the day he committed the attack to come forward.

Two unarmed police officers remained on guard outside the entrance to Granby House, believed to contain the flat in question, according to an AFP correspondent at the scene.

Rudd said Sunday that intelligence agencies were monitoring 3,000 suspected extremists and had a wider pool of 20,000 people of interest. "But I would not rush to conclusions, as you seem to be, that they have somehow missed something".

Security was highly-visible as 40,000 runners took to Manchester's streets for the Great Manchester Run a day after Prime Minister Theresa May lowered the terror threat level, which was hiked following Monday's carnage.

Turkish relations deeply strained ahead of Erdogan's visit to White House
Turkey has called for the decision on arming the YPG to be reversed, criticizing what it calls a strategy of using one terrorist group to fight another.

The images are the first to show what the 22-year-old looked like when he carried out the deadly terror attack.

Authorities are appealing for more information about his final days.

The security service will examine assumptions that were made about Abedi before the attack, and has launched a "post-incident investigation" into how the bomber was overlooked, the BBC said.

There were prayers for the victims at church services across Manchester on Sunday.
