British Airways Says Resumes Flights From Gatwick and Heathrow

London's Heathrow Airport said early on Monday that there were still some disruptions to British Airways flights from the airport following a global computer system failure at the airline.

BA said it meant to run a full long-haul schedule at Heathrow and a "high proportion" of its short-haul programme, and a full schedule at Gatwick. Most "long-haul flights" set to land in London on Sunday are expected to arrive as scheduled, the airline said.

In a video posted on YouTube, Alex Cruz, Chief Executive of BA, admitted that all the IT systems were not yet restored.

British Airways says it's continuing to work hard to resume a normal flight schedule at two London airports a day after a global IT failure crippled its services.

BA canceled all flights from both airports Saturday, upending the travel plans of tens of thousands of people on a busy United Kingdom holiday weekend.

BA passengers were hit with severe delays in July and September 2016 because of problems with the airline's online check-in systems.

He called the situation "unbelievable" and said he'd had to drive a cancer-stricken passenger home from Heathrow after a delay of almost four hours on the tarmac left the elderly man stranded. "We rebooked for Venice for tonight, which they also have canceled now". So far, 42 flights have left Heathrow and 29 have been cancelled.

As hundreds of passengers remained stranded, the GMB union blamed job cuts at BA for the IT problems which were thought to relate to a power outage.

A union official, meanwhile, blamed BA cost cutting for the travel chaos, saying the airline had laid off hundreds of IT staff previous year and outsourced the work to India.

Bloom later tweeted, "9 hours after checking in at Belfast airport we get home after the chaos of the British Airways IT crash".

If your flight's delayed for two or more hours the airline must offer food and drink, access to phone calls and emails, and accommodation if you're delayed overnight - including transfers between the airport and the hotel.
