British Airways resumes flights from London airports following global computer outage

In a video statement posted on Twitter, Cruz said due to the knock-on impact of disruptions on Saturday caused by a global computer system failure, there would be delays and some short haul flights would be canceled from Heathrow.

Disruption has entered a second day for passengers after BA was affected by a worldwide computer system power failure yesterday.

The airline had Saturday cancelled its flights to and from the three southern metros.

"We helped her up and she said 'I'm just so exhausted, '" said Page, whose luggage didn't arrive in Texas with him.

"Work continues to restore all of our IT systems but we expect some further disruption today", BA said in a statement.

At Heathrow's Terminal 5, where BA is the dominant carrier, hundreds of passengers were waiting in line on Sunday and flight arrival boards showed canceled flights.

BA and the London airports involved have advised passengers not to travel to the airport unless they have a confirmed booking, and those who have had a flight cancelled not to come to the airport, unless they have already rebooked it.

British Airways said it was hoping to operate a near-normal schedule of flights from Gatwick, London's other major airport, and the majority of its Heathrow services.

Alex Cruz, the chairman and chief executive of BA, part of Europe's largest airline group IAG, said there was no evidence of any cyber attack.

If your flight's delayed for two or more hours the airline must offer food and drink, access to phone calls and emails, and accommodation if you're delayed overnight - including transfers between the airport and the hotel. Those unable to fly would get a full refund, Cruz said.

It is already facing declining customer ratings following unpopular decisions made as it faces competition from low-priced airlines. The airline previously canceled 408 flights and had 226 delays on Saturday.

"We have also introduced more flexible rebooking policies for anyone due to travel on Sunday and Monday [and] who no longer wishes to fly to and from Heathrow or Gatwick", a BA spokeswoman told The National.

BA passengers were hit with severe delays in July and September 2016 because of problems with the airline's online check-in systems. Last month Germany's Lufthansa and Air France suffered a global system outage which prevented them from boarding passengers.
